About Us

Velo Pyrenees is run by Lee and Julie, both life long competitive endurance athletes. Fuelled with excitement and energy from cycling and running, we decided that there is no better place to ride, run and enjoy life than in the south of France. Here you will find fabulous cycling roads, excellent off-road trails, wonderful food and local culture.

We have a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from racing at national and international levels. We are happy to share any knowledge or experiences with our guests.

We love food and believe in the 'healthy body, healthy mind' philosophy and try to promote good health in everything we do. We want you to enjoy your stay to the maximum, whilst gaining improved health and fitness. We serve home-cooked food using the finest ingredients sourced from our own biodynamic vegetable garden and local, mostly organic producers, ensuring you recover as quickly as possible for your next day of activity.

Julie and Lee at Velo Pyrenees

While continuing to enjoy running, Julie is a regular contributor to several UK self-sufficiency magazines, writing on the subjects of poultry and horticulture. She is currently furthering her education in biodynamic agriculture.

Lee's background is in Architecture and design, with a passion for sustainable natural building techniques and Permaculture.

Lee and his road cycling bike

A born cyclist, Lee has an abundance of experience from a lifetime of riding and competing in road cycling, triathlon and mountain biking cross-country.

He is a qualified OTC Technical Mountain Bike Leader and an experienced mechanic who loves to tinker or hangout in the workshop.

Triathlon racing experience

Julie is a qualified British Triathlon coach and has a vast amount of practical experience gained from racing and competing for GB in the World Championships.

Julie is an ex-county swimmer and runner, with over 20 years of experience of competitive running on the track, cross-country and road in both the UK and France.

Mountain biking in the Pyrenees

More recently Lee has won the MTB Championship of the Midi-Pyrenees twice and ranked 9th in France in his age category for cross-country mountain biking.

He is now stepping up the distance and competing in Marathon, stage racing and ultra distance events on the MTB.

Trail running in the mountains

Although Julie has hung up her racing shoes, she still regularly runs, enjoying the complete solitude and closeness to nature that the local trails afford.

Running, swimming and triathlon

One of Lee's most memorable experiences is racing as an Elite in the London Triathlon against Tim Don and the dominating world champion, Richard Stannard.

Triathlon is not widely practiced in the Pyrenees but the area offers excellent trails for running and several inspiring natural swimming lakes.

What Our Customers Say

"We had 5 wonderful nights with Julie and lee during September and were greatly impressed with their hospitality and stunning home.

The meals were exquisite, and their assistance in working out each day’s ride (with laminated maps) made getting the most out of each day so easy. The bike storage and workshop was an added bonus allowing for a bit of maintenance to ensure the days riding was trouble free. There’s something magical about staying in a re-furbished French farmhouse, meeting other cyclists from other countries, having fantastic meals (and wine) after a long days riding; and you get all of that with Julie & Lee.

They offer a wonderful experience and it is such a shame it so far away from New Zealand as we would love to return."
