Running

The Pyrenees is not just a training heaven for cyclists - the Barousse Valley is a paradise for runners and offers you the chance to run through a landscape full of outstanding natural beauty that was carved out by an immense glacier many thousands of years ago.

Come and train here in a stress-free environment surrounded by breathtaking scenery to boost your strength and endurance fitness levels.

There is a good mix of trail runs available straight from the door - from easy recovery running to longer, challenging, hilly routes which are great for strength and endurance training. Trails vary from single tracks meandering through beech and oak forests to wide shepherd tracks that link the villages of the valley.

All of our run routes offer you the opportunity to explore an unspoilt and undiscovered part of the Pyrenees and allow you to pass through changing landscapes from the fertile valley floor, climbing through forests to the wilder reaches. En route, pass through rural villages and hamlets where time has stood still and admire the typical Barousse architecture; see the ruined chateau and climb the tower and pause for breath to admire the views of the lower Barousse Valley and so much more…

For those looking to incorporate some speed sessions, there is the possibility to train at an altitude of 1,700m or more on the grassy tracks of the cross country ski station of Nistos, a short drive away. If you want to stick to tarmac, there are some excellent quiet roads that meander from village to village on either side of the valley.

We can advise you on suitable routes, tailored to your running ability and training goals.

We can accompany you on off-road trails, taking away the necessity to navigate so you can concentrate on enjoying your run.
