The foothills of the Pyrenees offer runners a great network of off-road trails which are ideal for strength and endurance work. There is also the opportunity to incorporate interval sessions or tempo runs at an altitude of 1,700m or more on the grassy tracks of the cross country ski station of Nistos, a short drive away.

There are plenty of choices for strength work in the form of hill sessions too, with, perhaps the ultimate session being Kenyan hills at 1,800m altitude.

There is also a cinder 400m track 10km from us. If you prefer to run on tarmac, there are some excellent quiet roads that meander from village to village on either side of the valley.

All of our run routes offer you the opportunity to explore an unspoilt and undiscovered part of the Pyrenees and allow you to pass through changing landscapes from the fertile valley floor, climbing through forests to the wilder reaches. En route, pass through rural villages and hamlets where time has stood still and admire the typical Barousse architecture; see the ruined chateau and climb the tower and pause for breath to admire the views of the lower Barousse Valley and so much more.

We can advise you on suitable routes to compliment your own training plan, so that you get the most out of your stay with us. We provide A4 laminated maps and may be able to accompany you (if we are available) on off-road runs as a complimentary service, taking away the necessity to navigate so that you can concentrate on enjoying your running and the scenery.
